Ammar 808 on OFF-Festival 2019
It was past 1am, all the major concerts on the second day of OFF Festival have finished, the temperature was kept dropping, people seemed tired. Everything suggested that very few will have enough resolve to stay another 90 minutes for the two remaining concerts that were to simultaneously begin on Forest and Experimental Stages.
Few knew what Ammar 808 – Tunesian producer of music that blends influences of techno and traditional music of Maghreb region – had prepared for them on the latter stage.
Heavy beats have immediatelly brought people to dance, even more so as Ammar kept pushing tempo and power of his music. Compositions from his album Maghreb United were mixed live in new arrangements along with original additions. The vibe was enhanced by impressive visuals of psychedelic, futuristic and arab themes. The tent was filled with heat, everyone forgot about their weariness and more people kept coming into the tent to witness the performance. Despite the lack of big expectations, Ammar’s show was among OFF 2019’s most memoriable.
We interviewed Ammar 808 before the concert – read it here.
