Yami – Mariza’s bassist, guitarist, composer, singer and showman – joins the stars that will perform on the 10th anniversary of Gdańsk LOTOS Siesta Festival 2020.
Master of guitar, an acclaimed composer, but above all else a vocalist gifted with a tender voice – Yami lives by the music. For many years he served as Carlos do Carmo’s bassist and recorded with his son, not to mention Sara Tavares, Ivan Lins, and especially Mariza.
He has recently celebrated his own anniversary. Fernando Correira was born the same day Neil Armstrong performed a giant leap for mankind, but to the larger world he is known by his alias Yami, which was given to him by his mother. In Kimbundu language, Yami means simply “mine”. He, with all his joy of life, kindness and peculiarity, is most definitely “ours” – after all he was the very first guest of our African fiesta on Siesta Festival 2011. Later, during Siesta’s fifth edition, he returned alongside the rest of Mariza‘s band showcasing his versatility – on bass guitar and with his vocals in choirs and in duo, even giving his own mini recital.
Now Yami returns with his new album – a tribute to his mother, containing songs that serve as a guide across his homeland Angola, through Lisbon’s narrow streets, into his big, kind heart. We expect to hear them alongside his classic hits on Gdańsk LOTOS Siesta Festival’s 10th anniversary in Balatic Philharmonic on 24 April 2020 at 17:00. Paraphrasing Siesta’s founder and lead organizer Marcin Kydryński, we are lucky to once again witness one of the festival’s “founding musicians” with his incredible brand new music.
